"A Coach “unstucks” Us And Helps Us Identify Gaps Between Where We Are And Where We Actually Want To Be, In Order To Obtain The Things We Truly Desire."

About Responsibilities

To some a burden of a word. To others a requirement unsurpassed…. Responsibility.

Is it just a power-word invented by an author who had a lot of time on his hands or is there really some significant meaning to the word? Does it really have a warranted place in society?

We all have to take some responsibility for something at one or other stage in our lives. The question to be asked ourselves though is: “Will we live up to that responsibility?”. Will we be doing what is expected or will we be “wishy-washying” along, just to get that “time… Continue reading

About Leadership

I tend to shy away from using the word “Manager” as I believe the word is sometimes misunderstood, misused even. Some use the word to enforce authority, which gives the word a domineering ring and makes the myth that no people skills are required to be a manager seem like a fact. Some who refer to themselves as managers tend to have that aura around them with which they want to let everybody else know that they have achieved something and, because of this achievement (their title, presumably) they now are superior to everyone else. It is as if the… Continue reading

About Careers

Lewis Carroll once said “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there”. True. In life you can’t afford to be a wondering generalist, you have to be a deliberate specific. If you walk through life without an idea of where you are going, you will find yourself lost at some point. For some, the realisation that they are lost, might just come too late to turn around and take a different path.

To be able to know where you are going you need to know yourself. Know what you truly want for yourself and… Continue reading

About Time

Tick tock….Tick tock….digitally or via a “hand” time……life is counted down. What is time really but a ploy conceptualised by man to limit some and control others. We can’t touch it nor feel it, let alone see it, yet we use it to manage most, if not all aspects of our lives. Have you really put some thought into it? What is time really, and the question most theorists ask: does it really exist?

Some good conversations around the bar, yes we talk there too, and things that happened recently had me thinking that bringing home the idea of what… Continue reading

About Making Things Happen

Winston Churchill did it. Thomas Edison did it. More recently Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela and Richard Branson did it.

All of them, one way or another, did something which had a huge impact on many, if not all. These are individuals who did not shy away from being different. These are individuals who decided, despite resistance from others and the odds they faced, to push forward and lead the way towards what they believe(d) in. They left their footprints on earth for everyone else to see.

What is keeping you from leaving your footprints? Fear? Doubt? Others? Laziness, maybe?

Yes,… Continue reading

About Failing

Failing is not everyone’s cup o’ tea. Who really wants to fail at anything and have others make comments the likes of “that guy failed at this or that”? Nope, failing is meant for the weak, for those who didn’t prepare properly. It is something to be avoided at all costs. People who fail are judged by others and are seen and treated as outcasts. They do not belong amongst the successful.

Are these your thoughts? Is failure something you try to avoid at all costs? Do you fear failure so much that it stops you from trying new things?… Continue reading

About Communication

If you thought saying nothing leaves you on the fence during a discussion, think again…..Having studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming I learnt that we cannot not communicate. Whether our chatter makes the ears of our listeners buzz or whether we say nothing at all, we are constantly communicating – be it verbally, with our facial expressions and/or our body language.

Now, there are people who know how to read body language and facial expressions. They know that one cannot interpret a single “arms-fold” as the person not being interested in a conversation or a touch of the nose as indication that a… Continue reading

About Trust

Here’s another thing you can’t buy at your local candy store…..Trust. Like respect it is something that is earned, not given away freely. You are either trusted or you’re not. You either trust someone or you don’t. There are no grey areas here. It is an all or nothing thing. You either are or you’re not. You either do or you don’t.

Everybody wants to be trusted. Nobody wants to be labelled as being treacherous.

There is only one way of getting people to trust you. That is by acting in an ethical manner at all times….when you are with… Continue reading

About 2015

In a couple of days 2014 will be something of the past, a memory only. Yes, the festive season has arrived and with it the time to spend with loved ones family and friends. A good time for some.

It is also this time of the year that many of us reminisce about what transpired during the last twelve months. It is this time of the year that we sit and ponder, well some at least, about where we are compared to where we were in January this year. Have we grown in any way? Have we made a difference?… Continue reading

About Dreams

We all have dreams every now and then. Some of us have them by night while others have them in broad daylight. To some it is a way of getting away from it all and to forget about the happenings of the day that has passed…… The expression “Sleeping-it-off” comes to mind. To others it is a tool, and a rather dynamic one at that, used to create the future they desire for themselves.

Dreaming is a “must-do”, if you were to ask my opinion. We need to have dreams in order to go places….to achieve things. Dreams are, after… Continue reading
