"A Coach “unstucks” Us And Helps Us Identify Gaps Between Where We Are And Where We Actually Want To Be, In Order To Obtain The Things We Truly Desire."

About 2020

2019 is preparing for its last cry with only 25 days remaining, leaving 2020 pounding at the door. And what a noise it is.

I think this is a great time to reflect on what happened during the year, both personally and a professionally, acknowledge our accomplishments and “query” the flops.

So, how’s your year been? Have you achieved something extraordinary? Something you could write home and tell your grandchildren about some day. Something you could feel proud of having carved onto your tombstone and have friend and foe salute and cheer you for, at your memorial? Or will 2019 go down YOUR history book as just another boring and mediocre year?

If you haven’t done anything special, what the hell have you been busy with? You had 11 months. By the time this e-mail “hits” your inbox you had a total of 340 days.

Doing the same thing day in and day out may seem harmless, but truth came from the pen of Marshall Goldsmith when he wrote: “What got you here, wont get you there”. We need to do something different to become who, and get where, we want to be. To grow, change is inevitable. Sure, change is always difficult and confrontation may await us, but that’s growth. And growth is what’s needed to get “from here to there”.

So, let’s commit to doing something different and exciting in 2020. Let’s commit to us changing things for the better, achieving the growth we so desperately want. Let’s do something that gets our heart skipping a beat or six.

Some have been shelving their dreams for long enough. My message to you is this: STOP procrastinating!!!!! STOP talking about the things you want to do and go DO them. Go get that certification. Do that bungy jump. Achieve that Target. Apply for that new job. Quit smoking. Start that business. Get that butt of yours off the sofa and into that gym. Become the person you always wanted to be, despite others’ view thereof. Change what needs to be changed and go make that difference you always wanted to make. You’re not getting any younger and life’s not going to wait on you either.

I dare you: Let’s go BIG in 2020.

WRITE down the 3 craziest and most exciting things you want to achieve. Next to that, pen down what you need to do and the resources required to do those 3 things. Put dates next to the things you need to do. Think of the possible obstacles you may face and how you will overcome them. WRITE these down too, making sure you know what to do when they make their appearance.

In short: where are you now, where and who do you want to be in December 2020 and how will you get there?

Now, visualize what it would be like if you actually achieved these 3 things. And just as the Jackson 5 asked in their hit-single in ’81, I reiterate their question….CAN YOU FEEL IT?!!? And, does it feel good? If you can and it does, make your goals public for everybody else to see. We tend to feel a lot more motivated and committed when telling others about our plans. I think it’s the idea of others holding us to task and giving us “hell” if we don’t deliver. And how we hate being characterized as let-downs. Then, once public knowledge, go DO what you said you would. No excuses. No but’s.

Go out there and write the Blueprint for your 2020. If you don’t, someone else will.

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”
